”I want to make pieces that communicate stories. With the storytelling key elements. I like the human flaws and weaknesses. I need to see that in a character to believe in him, to care about him and to be interested in him. I’ve found an inspiring theme that also opens doors to other routes and motifs that share my thoughts with others – contributing to define the kind of artist I am today.”

i make art >i am for an art that is erotic, political and mystical that does something other than sit on its ass in a museum >i am for an art that embroils itself with the everyday scum of the world & still comes out on top >i am for art that is smoked like a cigarette and smells like a pair of shoes >i am for art that coils and grunts like a wrestler >i am for art that sheds hair >i am for the art of cheap plaster and enamel >i am for the art of rust and mould >i am for art

Detour art is all about moving past the ordinary and making innovative and new art; from simple concepts to some of the most outlandish ideas conceived of. Creativity is the the key to creating the long lasting and meaningful art; however unappreciated it may be at the time of creation.

It was once helpful for me to define my values as an artist as being 'beauty' and a 'freedom to fail'. My pracitice is therefore guided by these principles regadless of what I am working on. It is my aim to bring more beauty into the world through colour, form, rythm and pattern. The freedom to fail allows enough space around my creative process to enable an exploration of the nature of creativity and the happy accident which seems to me where the real work and magic happens.

I am a passionate individual trying to live a life that gives priority to following my creative muse while contributing positively to the evolution of the collective. I see art as a way of thinking and acting in the world rather than merely a stylistic or material practice. I am concerned with how people relate to the self, to each other and to their environment. I am saddened by cruelty, xenophobia and greed. I aim to give artistic presence to my humanity and concern.

It's about archetypes mostly; it has something to do with aspiration and inspiration, and also poor attempts at improvement... I haven’t quite figured it out, but when I do…
